We are very excited to be offering a new free workshop for tenants this fall: “Tenant Organizing 101“!
The goal of this workshop is to teach you tangible skills and equip you with the knowledge and confidence to go out into your communities and mobilize your neighbors for change.
Why is this important?
As tenants, we simply cannot afford to remain isolated, fighting the same battles against our landlords alone. You and your neighbors can have a much stronger impact and faster results when you combine your forces and work together!
We also need to mobilise as a broader movement West Island tenants fighting for change at the local, provincial, and federal levels. The root cause of the housing crisis we are living in is systemic: a profoundly unjust and unequal economic and legal system that prioritizes profit over the fundamental right to housing. We can no longer tolerate local politicians who tell us that our problems do not exist or do not matter, and a provincial government that is stripping away protections from tenants and funding for social housing.
We are all frustrated, and we need to find productive ways to channel this frustration into action, which is why we have organized this new workshop. During the workshop, you will learn about how to talk to your neighbours about housing issues, about door knocking, attending city council meetings, and building solidarity networks in your buildings and in your communities!
The workshop will be held twice, once in Pointe-Claire on September 19th and once in Pierrefonds on October 3rd. Lunch and snacks will be provided, and the workshop is free, of course! The flier for the workshop with all of the information is attached to this email.
Registration is encouraged! You can register for the workshops at the links below:
